Ancient Village or Settlement in Amazonas, Brazil.
Finds of settlement dated at 300 BC to AD 400, including lithic finds, polychrome ceramics, with large quantities of broken ceramic used to build up soil banks.
This is one of several village sites in the Manaus area that have been found at modern, established farms, attracted to terra preta (black earth) soils. The interpretation that the black earth sites along the Amazon River and its major tributaries are man made is still controversial.
