Log Text: Sixth big cairn in the Corndon Hill walk. Again with several shelters dug into it. A really cold harsh wind blowing but we’re carrying on to the last cairn.

Corndon Hill 6

Corndon Hill 6 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. Looking south west, with Corndon Hill 6 cairn in the foreground, and Roundton Hillfort sticking up noticeably in the middle distance. Crisp big blue sky on Midwinter Solstice 2004. Made me feel very euphoric; wonderful day for visiting this location.

Log Text: Fantastic views of the landscape as the 7th cairn in the walk is approached. Glad we struggled on to get here. Might start with this one next time as it’s lovely here.

Corndon Hill 4

Date Added: 7th Mar 2022
Site Type: Cairn Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 7th Mar 2022. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 5 Access 2

Corndon Hill 4

Corndon Hill 4 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The most north eastern cairn on top of Corndon Hill, Midwinter Solstice 2004. Corndon Hill 3, left, and Corndon Hill 2, top right are also visible. The cairns are substantial, and writing as one who has walked miles to see much lesser cairns, this hilltop is a worthy visit. My friend, 'Wintertrees', helps gave a sense of scale.

Log Text: Fifth cairn in the Corndon Hill walk. Interesting kerb stones and a central cist with a large slab visible.

Pont Scethin Double Cairn submitted by w650marion on 6th Mar 2019. A line of stones (?) in the OS map location of Pont Scethin Double Cairn. No obvious double cairn in this spot!

Log Text: Coflein led me to believe that there were four mounds from a bronze age cemetery nearby on this side of the road. I don’t believe it! I think the aerial mapping project just saw a trick of the light, and invented them!

Log Text: Lovely ambience at this cairn due to the unusual but clever situation. It’s encircled by low rocky outcrops, then in the distance, surrounded by a bowl of mountains. The builders took great care over this. We didn’t want to leave!

Log Text: Balancing on logs dropped over the flooded parts of the footpath by the bridge, then tussock hopping over the boggy areas, but nicer walking over the ridge top to look for the barrows.
