Hoarstones

Hoarstones submitted by Postman on 1st Apr 2018. The sun came out at last and made the whole scene far too bright, it was almost painful to look.

Log Text: It's a sad unloved stone circle in a very boggy large field marked "private keep out". Not one I visit very often, I do remember it having official access with an info board 30 years ago. It looked better then but I can't find any photos (it was pre digital camera days)

Castle Ring (Stiperstones)

Castle Ring (Stiperstones) submitted by w650marion on 13th Nov 2019. Castle Ring Hillfort, surrounded by steep precipitous slopes on all sides apart from a saddle just visible in the distance. It's a long walk to it!

Log Text: Relatively easy walk up from Snailbeach car park (compared with the ankle breaking southern Stiperstones path!) Excellent views down into the dingles and across the Shropshire plain.

Five Barrows (Northumberland)

Five Barrows (Northumberland)

Five Barrows (Northumberland) submitted by w650marion on 29th Jan 2023. The largest cairn, on the ridge top, about 19 meters diameter. It has a central dip where it was excavated.

Log Text: Balancing on logs dropped over the flooded parts of the footpath by the bridge, then tussock hopping over the boggy areas, but nicer walking over the ridge top to look for the barrows.

Log Text: Like Marko’s visit seven years ago, the vegetation and bracken obscured a lot of it, but still, it’s a hillfort with great views!
