Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2019. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 2 Access 5
Saint-Uzec menhir submitted by TheCaptain on 22nd Apr 2011. Its crowning glory is the way it has been christianised with the addition of a granite cross on top and carvings on its front (southern) face, which show scenes from the bible and the "roughly hewn instruments of passion".
In the past it was also painted. This was all done in 1674, when the nearby chapel was built.

Keryvon allée couverte submitted by thecaptain on 27th Feb 2007. Right beside the D.788 road from Trébeurden to Trégastel, and only feet from the cliff edge, is the remains of this allée couverte.
It has a single capstone on side supports only, but there are at least three of them on the south side, and possibly more. At the back, near the hedge, I think that there are a few peristalith stones also.

The Stiperstones submitted by TimPrevett on 28th Jun 2004. A cairn just north east of Manstone Rock.
"The Stiperstones" is the name for a hill on the far west reaches of Shropshire, well into The Welsh Marches, overlooking the Welsh border. It is the second highest hill in Shropshire, affording superb views in all directions, and having several bronze age cairns along its ridge.
The cairns themselves, excepting the largest, can be quite hard to locate. At a very reductionist level, they are basically piles of stone amidst a whole ridge of piles of...

Caer Caradoc (Church Stretton) submitted by TimPrevett on 28th Jun 2004. Caer Caradoc, taken from a northwest angle on a lovely summer's morning. Indeed, this offers some formidable defense. If this were the place of Caratacus' last stand against the Romans, this would have indeed been something difficult to conquer, even by Roman standards. However, there is no evidence to confirm this suggestion.

Log Text: Extensive views for miles from the ramparts, despite being a low hill. Enjoyable walk on a well cared for Hillfort. The southern half and large central area is being grazed by black soay/hebridean sheep (Iron Age sheep) to keep the bracken away - it can damage the archaeology.

A composite shot looking towards Corndon Hill, and Mitchell's Fold (out of view).
It was snowing hard at this point on Midwinter Solstice Eve, and even I was questioning my sanity about being in this exposed, beautiful and dramatic landscape.

Holywell Brook (Rorrington) submitted by TimPrevett on 12th Jul 2005. On the far north end of Stapeley Hill, two springs close to each other emanate from the hillside, converging into one brook.
For centuries these springs were venerated, even as late as the 19th Century. On Holy Thursday, there would be a procession here, and the springs decorated and dressed. Ritual dropping of pins into the water, drinking of a brew made from water and sugar, and eating of cakes were observed. All this followed by a fair in Rorrington village itself.

Castle Ring (Rorrington) submitted by TimPrevett on 12th Jul 2005. One of a number of monuments called Castle Ring; this one near Rorrington just north west of Stapeley Hill.
Just one ring surrounds this hilltop, with glorious views. Access is not obvious, so follow the route on the map, and when going through the wood, mind your footing. Tripping hazards abound.
A lovely remote place. Even though, while I was here on midsummer eve, a man on a quad bike came riding on a track to the south. If I recall correct, he was the brother of the landowner. We discuss...
