Egryn Abbey, Hengwm, Round Hut Excavated By Ardudwy Early Landscapes Project submitted by pab on 21st Jun 2008. Mynydd Egryn (Mount Egryn). Midway between the 2 tombs of Carneddau Hengwm and the crown-effect cairn circle of Hengwm on the slopes of Mynydd Egryn. A series of circles seem to have been recently excavated. This picture looks over the circle towards NE (the top of Moelfre bearing 11' if that helps locate it)

Log Text: Absolute pleasure to visit here on a sunny day. We usually make it at least once a year and are getting to know the layout of the sites quite well. There are more hut circles to be found in this enormous field and the field next door, but the gorse is getting quite high so it takes a bit of detective work to match them up with the records. Something to look forward to next year.
Hengwm Ring Cairn
Date Added: 14th Dec 2024
Site Type: Ring Cairn
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 19th Sep 2024. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 2

Hengwm Ring Cairn submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Sep 2007. This is a delight not to be missed. If you visit the tombs at Carneddau Hengwm, this is just a few minutes walk away. Take it in, or you'll be kicking yourself. A small ring cairn, with outward leaning stones, and an internal ring recognisable in most of the monument. It appears also to be sited so as to give an impression of being on a ridge. Comparisons with Bryn Cader Faner, which is to the north on another good long, walk, are easy to make.

Coed Cors y Gedol Round House submitted by w650marion on 2nd Mar 2025. It appears in the early spring. The substantial ring of green stones that once was a round house. I like to go and say hello every year, it looks very welcoming. By early summer it will disappear, hidden by brambles and bracken.

Cors y Gedol Round House Settlement submitted by w650marion on 2nd Mar 2025. Close to the footpath, another ring of stones appears in early spring when the brambles and bracken have died back. It was something important once, quite substantial and there is a very welcoming atmosphere. I always say hello and we have a little chat.

Breiddin Hillfort submitted by TimPrevett on 24th May 2004. From the left Breiddin hill (also spellt Breidden) with New Pieces, centre and Moel y Golfa, right. Viewed from the south.
The hillfort on Breiddin hill made national news in July 2000 when the culmination of a decade of diligent deforestation showed the remains of this settlement, hidden for over 1500 years.
At well over 1000 feet above central eastern Powys (formerly Montgomeryshire), not far from the Shropshire border, the fort has a panoramic position. As one would expect, the extremel...

Roundton Hillfort is upon the hill to the left.

Many of the cairns show signs of interference and digging into; about five such 'holes', three very sizeable, are within this cairn.
View to the north east.

The cairns are substantial, and writing as one who has walked miles to see much lesser cairns, this hilltop is a worthy visit.
My friend, 'Wintertrees', helps gave a sense of scale.
