Log Text: So big, it's difficult to fit into one photo! Interesting how the chambers changed in their construction over time, now easy to see due to the damage at the back. The chambers with the rock art are sealed but the visitor centre has photos.

Breiddin Hillfort

Breiddin Hillfort submitted by TimPrevett on 24th May 2004. From the left Breiddin hill (also spellt Breidden) with New Pieces, centre and Moel y Golfa, right. Viewed from the south. The hillfort on Breiddin hill made national news in July 2000 when the culmination of a decade of diligent deforestation showed the remains of this settlement, hidden for over 1500 years. At well over 1000 feet above central eastern Powys (formerly Montgomeryshire), not far from the Shropshire border, the fort has a panoramic position. As one would expect, the extremel...

Brenig 6 submitted by w650marion on 10th Mar 2019. Approaching from the west, the cairn is obscured by tall grass but the tall post and smaller ones guided the way. The posts represent the site of a prehistoric hut which was under the cairn.

Log Text: Path from Eisingrug the wettest I've seen in 30 years visiting. Waterproof boots, gaiters and bog prodders essential. Return journey was via the hut circle settlements on the slopes above the path. Much easier!

Caer Caradoc (Church Stretton)

Caer Caradoc (Church Stretton) submitted by TimPrevett on 28th Jun 2004. Caer Caradoc, taken from a northwest angle on a lovely summer's morning. Indeed, this offers some formidable defense. If this were the place of Caratacus' last stand against the Romans, this would have indeed been something difficult to conquer, even by Roman standards. However, there is no evidence to confirm this suggestion.

Log Text: Wonderful views all around! The wind was cold and very strong, but you could find good calm shelter between the ramparts and the inner rocks where the ground was level and dry - a place for hut circles?

Log Text: It's very close and visible from the Kerry Ridgeway single track road. If the grass verge was dry you could possibly park close to the gate of the field. But everywhere in Shropshire is permanently wet and boggy these days so it's best to park securely in a lay-by closer to Bishops Castle and enjoy the walk in along the Ridgeway.

Castle Ring (Rorrington)

Castle Ring (Rorrington) submitted by TimPrevett on 12th Jul 2005. One of a number of monuments called Castle Ring; this one near Rorrington just north west of Stapeley Hill. Just one ring surrounds this hilltop, with glorious views. Access is not obvious, so follow the route on the map, and when going through the wood, mind your footing. Tripping hazards abound. A lovely remote place. Even though, while I was here on midsummer eve, a man on a quad bike came riding on a track to the south. If I recall correct, he was the brother of the landowner. We discuss...
