The Devil's Quoits - a restored stone circle and henge in-situ. Quite how this escaped my radar for over a decade until the last month escapes me. So, a varied route across country on midsummer solstice-eve took me to this quite magnificent rebuild. The adjacent landfill tip is now moved so that it's more earth-intrusive operations are out of sight, the mound is greening over, and visiting outside of operational hours me...

Log Text: We visited in spring of 2026, there is a path there but quite muddy when we visited as it had been rainy.
Strong but rather strange ambience at the site and particular in the stone circle itself. Didn't feel like staying for long.

Avebury submitted by creators on 27th May 2005. I have been reluctant to submit this picture because it is a composite, taken on the same day in the same place but still a composite. It is AngieLake's exquisitely named 'receptors' hands receiving the moon and a picture I love.
So a composite done tenderly of Avebury that is at my very heart.

Nether Largie Stone Row submitted by jeffrep on 7th Feb 2013. The Netrher Largie Stones in Kilmartin Glen, Argyll and Bute, Scotland -- five central standing stones, arranged in an "X" shape. The nine foot central stone is accompanied by a number of smaller stones surrounding it. The central stone also has several cup marks.

Log Text: Absolutely wonderful site. We got engaged here, such a special place! In July 2026, only us and a handful of other visitors. Also recommend visiting the many nearby sites and Kilmarten Museum.
There is a car park nearby, about 2 minutes walk by footpath to the stones.

Mycenae. submitted by AlexHunger on 20th Aug 2006. Mycenaean Lions Gate from the front. Achaean hillfort from about 1500 to 1100 BCE and probable starting point of Homer's Iliad. There are numerous tholos tombs in the area.
