Wayland's Smithy submitted by Sunny100 on 6th Aug 2010. The entrance to the chambered long barrow of Wayland's Smithy, near Wantage in Oxfordshire, dating from the Neoloithic Age. Some of the menhirs standing around the barrow are 10 foot tall. The name Wayland the Smith is the legendary person associated with this site and who lived in the 10th century. It says that 'if a horse and a coin were left here overnight, Wayland would shoe the horse and keep the coin'.
