Log Text: Big walk round the Botallack mines area, and despite being very tired when I get back to Botallack, I decide to go further south to have a look for this cairn circle. I'm still not convinced of its authenticity amoungst the mining ruins, but it’s a lovely spot. I get to sit and watch a nest of choughs up on top of one of the old engine houses, must be parents with about 4 offspring up there.

Log Text: Dropping down from Carn Kenidjack, and after a slight detour to refresh myself at The North Inn, I head towards the coast and look for the Lower Boscaswell Fougou. Not being able to find it initially, I cheat and look it up on the portal. Ah, through the cow field and round the other side, over a stile and there it is. These days theres just a small chamber like space behind the opening, and daylight can be seen up a smaller side passage. Such a large stone area here, makes me wonder how big this might have once been. I'd better get on with my walk as time is getting on, and I have been getting further off route, so no time to try find the Pendeen one.

Log Text: Big walk round the Botallack mines area today, starting off by walking up to the top of Carn Kenidjack. Some lovely cattle grazing up here, who don't seem to mind my presence as I greet them all. I am not convinced of anything other than natural up here. Everything is hazy up here today with a sea mist rolling in, so I miss out on the views.

Carnbean Barrows submitted by Bladup on 1st Jul 2020. Carnbean Barrow SW38283313., Well well well, who'd have thought there'd be a undeniable large disc barrow here in this part of sunny Cornwall, it even has it's little central mound intact, I've been here before but it was very overgrown but now it's clear (well done the clearers) and blooming heck I never expected to see this!!!

Log Text: On the way back from another failed attempt to get to Goodaver circle, I decided not to completely give up, and went for a look for the stone row, in an open field to the west of the northern corner of the forest. It's open access land, and easy to enter the field after taking the track westwards from the radio mast. I first found what looked to be the remains of a hut circle, before finding the stone row.

It's open access land, and easy to enter the field after taking the track westwards from the radio mast. I first found what looked to be the remains of a hut circle, and then found the stone row. Its clearly an ancient stone row, with a few fairly big stones, but most of them are fairly small. The ground here was very rough and dry after such a prolonged period with no rain, but looks like it gets boggy and well trodden and churned up by the cattle in the fields.

Carneglos Barrow submitted by TheCaptain on 27th Jun 2023. Somewhere in the dense forest is this barrow. The forest track passes close by, but there is no easy way in, but I am sure I could glimpse some raised earthworks in places.

Log Text: Stop at Webbs Down near Bolventor to try to walk to the Goodaver stone circle through the forests from the north. Its very hot, and about halfway there the forest tracks are all shut off, with barbed wire and CCTV. I look at going over the rough ground to the west of the forest, but it wont be easy. I then check my route map, and realise that the 5 km walk is each way, not a full round trip. Decide this is no good, and head back to the car, but I do get to visit the stone row. Time to go to Blisland for an afternoon pint.

Log Text: On my way down to Wadebridge today, I didn't have time for the long walk through the forest, but thought I'd try the direct ways from the Bolventor - St Cleer road down the Fowey valley. Both these ways I have seen described. Plan A. up the curvy track at Trezibbet, which is clearly seen from the raad in the valley. I asked somebody tending lambs in the barns at the bottom, and got a friendly but definite no. No way through. Private land. Plan A.2. Up either track from Goodaver, one of which shows to be a path on my OutdoorActive routeplanner. All gates and ways across the river locked. Asked a man tending a tractor. A less friendly, No. Private. So, maybe another time with half a day spare to try the forest way from the north.
