Withypool Hill Barrow
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes on 19th Nov 2006
Withypool Hill Barrow submitted by thecaptain on 19th Nov 2006. This is large 25 metre diameter round barrow on the top of Withypool Hill. It’s been much dug about in the middle but is still well over a metre high.
The outside circumference is still in very good condition, and almost looks like it had a ditch and outer bank around it originally.

Almsworthy

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes on 24th Nov 2006
Almsworthy submitted by thecaptain on 24th Nov 2006. Almsworthy Common. This is stated by various sources to be the remains of two concentric ovals, or up to six lines of stones, but I could see no particular pattern.
Here we see about 6 of the little stones poking up above the heather, looking southeast.

Huish Champflower Barrow submitted by thecaptain on 4th Apr 2007. This is a large, but well messed about with barrow surrounded by trees and sheep. There was no obvious way into the field, so I did not go in.

Long Holcombe (S)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes on 13th Apr 2007
Long Holcombe (S) submitted by thecaptain on 13th Apr 2007. When I eventually found the stone, which is almost lost among the long grass, it is only about 18 inches high, and it leans to the south, uphill.
I came to the conclusion that this stone is perhaps the last remaining stone of what was originally a stone setting of some kind, and that there was probably further stones in amongst the moor grass at one time.

Lanacombe 5

Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes on 5th Aug 2007

Lanacombe 5 submitted by TheCaptain on 5th Aug 2007. On the south facing slopes of Lanacombe Hill on Exmoor, are the remains of this fairly recently found stone setting.
I found many stones and stumps of stones standing proud of the ground.
The book I have says 9 stones in 3 rows, but to be honest, it could be anything.

Lanacombe 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 17th Aug 2007. The third stone I found, I would estimate to be about 20–30 metres further up the hill, but it is leaning over or fallen, and well hidden in some marsh grass.

I certainly found a stone standing at the grid ref noted here, about 0.3 metres high.
