Essich Moor submitted by TheCaptain on 18th Jun 2018. From the Prehistoric Explorers Club Facebook page today.
If anyone has any information on who is behind this please report!
This is from the NOSAS Facebook page: "We were very sorry to learn today that one of the cists at Carn Glas long cairn, Achvraid, Essich, south of Inverness has been deliberately damaged. Apparently turf has been cut and and stones have been removed to create a makeshift structure. This is a scheduled monument and the police, HES and Highland Council are aware....

Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: France (Midi:Hautes-Pyrénées (65))
Visited: Yes on 5th Sep 2005. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4
Estaque d'Avezac cinq tumuli submitted by TheCaptain on 21st Jul 2010. To the west of the village of La Barthe-sur-Neste, along the hilltop is a row of tumulus mounds. Most are now obvious only because of the ferns and stuff left growing on them.
The row extends for about 1 kilometre, and there were probably once many more mounds to be found here, now mostly ploughed out or destroyed by the road.

Log Text: To the west of the village of La Barthe-sur-Neste, and southeast of Capvern, along the hilltop beside the D.938 road, is a row of tumulus mounds. Most are now obvious only because of the ferns and stuff left growing on them, but the northwestern end tumulus is very well formed, 12 metres in diameter, 2 metres high and with a large cross on top. The row extends for about 1 kilometre, and there were probably once many more mounds to be found here, now mostly ploughed out or destroyed by the road.

Log Text: To the west of the village of La Barthe-sur-Neste, and northeast of the row of tumuli along the ridgetop road, can be found the remains of the Estaque tumulus. This is a very large mound, now contained beyond the confines of a rubbish facility, and not easy to access, although it can just about be seen from the road.

Log Text: To the east of the village of Estivaux, this dolmen can be found in a field near to the sports stadium and a new housing development, just about 50 metres from the road. Its an odd little affair, and almost looks modern. The oval capstone, 3.5 m by 2.5 m sits on top of 4 support stones making a small chamber 2 metres by 1 metre inside, and about 1.5 metres in height. The support stones look to me to be quite new, perhaps an enthusiastic restoration job has been done, and it is all a bit too level. Unfortunately two of the support stones have been painted blue, and the ambience of the place is spoiled by the power cables directly overhead.

Log Text: In an area to the west of the hamlet, in an area rich in natural rock outcrops, can be found this strange little dolmen. It would appear that a large capstone has been positioned over a natural chamber, which is about 4 metres by 2 metres, this being a sort of split in the rocks. But there is more to it than that, as an entranceway has also been constructed, using two slabs set on their sides, and a backstone nicely in place also. Within the chamber, and on other stones in the vicinity, are lots of marks and grooves, which look like they have been used for polishing blades etc, although it is possible that they are just natural.

The sad remains of the Fairy Toot long barrow, looking northwest from midway along the eastern side. Remains of a sheepshed can be seen, built right in the middle of this once great barrow. Most of the rest of the mound has been cleared.

Fan Brycheiniog submitted by TheCaptain on 8th Sep 2017. Although I can find no record of this being an ancient site, it looks to me like there is probably the remains of an ancient cairn below the trig point on top of Fan Brycheiniog (802m), as there is on the other peaks here. It is well worn and eroded in its hilltop position.

Log Text: We carried on to get to the trig point on top of Fan Brycheiniog (802m) before the Germans, so we could take our pictures without them in the way! Once more it looks like there is probably the remains of an ancient cairn below the trig point, which is once again becoming well worn. We then went and sat in the little circular shelter 50 metres away to the south along the ridge to have our lunch, and let the storms pass, the weather becoming much brighter.

Log Text: Once up on the top of Fan Foel (781m) in the rain and wind, the remains of this large circular cairn are plain to see, no doubt due to the excavation work some years ago. The circular structure of the cairn is 11 meters in diameter, and within this cairn, offset to the steep cliff edge, is the box like remains of a cist. At this point we saw just about the only other people we saw all day, a couple of German lads who stood in the cairn and seemed reluctant to move away so I could take some photos!

Log Text: Very slight remains of a burial cairn can be found at the top of Fan y Big, one of the ridge peaks of the Brecon Beacons.
Absolutely stunning views are to be had from here, possibly the best in all of the Brecon Beacons, with the large glacial valleys below on two sides, and the high peaks of Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Ddu looming up to the west. If here, don't forget the photo opportunity on the diving board!

Farges dolmen submitted by thecaptain on 19th Sep 2006. Unfortunately this dolmen is almost a complete wreck, having had trees growing in and around it, and probably its share of hits by the plough. The capstone sits at a steep angle on one high side stone and the ground at the other side.

Log Text: Take the little country road southwest from Herment, and after a while the dolmen will be signposted. Its in the middle of a field above the hamlet of Farges and easy to see in the field. Unfortunately it’s a complete wreck, having had trees growing in and around it, and probably its share of hits by the plough. The capstone sits at a steep angle on one high side stone and the ground at the other side. Two other support stones remain standing, plus lots of other broken bits of stone.
There is a superb view of the Sancy mountain range from here. There are many legends and stories of fairies, giants and monsters attached to this dolmen.

What a lovely spot it is down here, well protected from any winds, and with a few trees growing in a little flat grassy area beside the babbling stream.

Murat-sur-Vèbre Centre d'Interprétation submitted by thecaptain on 12th May 2009. I believe the real Favarels statue menhir has been taken inside the museum at Murat-sur-Vèbre, but a replica has been made and put in the place of the real one outside the information office.

Log Text: The real statue menhir has been taken inside the museum at Murat, but a replica has been made and put in the place of the real one outside the information office. Its only about a metre tall, but has all the right features, face with tattous, arms with fingers, legs with toes, belt with buckle and shoulder straps with "Objet". He also carries an axe. I don't quite know where the museum is where the real one has now been put, and it would be closed at this time in the evening anyway.

Felton Bowl Barrows T28 & T29 submitted by TheCaptain on 14th Apr 2004. Felton Hill Barrows, Felton Common, North Somerset. ST519648.
The central mound, complete with ditch and surrounding stone circle.
Felton Common lies directly under the flight path to Bristol Lulsgate airport, at the eastern end of the runway. This airfield was very active during the second world war, and it is known that there was much military activity on Felton Common during that period. It would not surprise me if the barrows had been substantially rearranged during that period, perhap...

Having read the description of this site again, it became obvious that the described cairn was the oval barrow near to the west end of the common by the round house. So I went to have another look, with more determination to get pictures.
This oval barrow is approx 20m by 15m, and has a north south axis. It is very overgrown, and as can be seen in the picture, lies right at the end of the runway of Bristol airport.

Radially outwards from the large triangular stone at a distance of about 50 metres, is a pink granite stone, quite possibly an outlier of some kind.
