The Fowlis Wester Circles

The Fowlis Wester Circles submitted by Nick on 5th Nov 2002. Half a mile above the village of Fowlis Wester is an area where parking is possible. From there it is around 400m walk up a rough track to the outlier, which is clearly visible. Both circles are in a fairly ruinous condition. The 6ft outlier is around 40 feet to the NE of the eastern circle. There are 3 cupmarks o...

Water of Deugh

Water of Deugh submitted by PaulM on 29th Oct 2002. King’s Cairn Another inclusion in the regions’ Archaeosights leaflet - quite a way into wilderness country but the lane is a nice drive. Once you have found the relavant stile your walk begins. It is not a long walk but it is uphill, dark and wet (I wish I hadn’t watched The Blair Witch Project a night or two before!) but the King’s Cairn is worth the fear. Strangely the cairn (at NS55210090) is enclosed in a fence (easily crossed) and then a ramshackled dry stone wall. Not in...

Carn Fadrun

Carn Fadrun submitted by Postman on 19th Jun 2015. The strongest contender for the bronze age robbed cist, a robbed cist with some cairn material left over, overlaid by the fort wall, sounds like looking for a needle in a haystack... a haystack made of needles. But it's in the right place and I can imagine a cist once being where the green low bushes are now.
