Log Text: Sadly this is the result of overzealous archeologists, historians and public officials. This magnificent dolmen has now been "preserved" -- truly entombed -- and has lost its function as a sacred site. The idea that a structure at least 5000 years old needs a huge wooden roof (that may last 100 years) to protect it is ridiculous. The objects found could be conserved in a museum and the site left in the state that has preserved it for the last 5000 years.

Log Text: Leaving from Opakua its the first left after ascending the mountain. Approximately 3K in the paved road makes a sharp turn to the left but a dirt road continues straight. The menhir is just off the junction down the dirt road. If you see a straight line of stones along side of the dirt road you have gone a bit too far. A refuge for shepherds or hikers is about 1k further on the dirt road.

Log Text: A beautiful site located in a gorgeous mountain valley. There is a car park on the road side and a small sign pointing to the dolmen. Follow the sign to another marker and its a short walk to the dolmen. It appears the dolmen was enclosed, part of which is quite visible. Excellent.
