Presaddfed Burial Chambers

Presaddfed Burial Chambers submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Presaddfed Burial Chambers SH347809 Visited Monday 25th Septemebr 2000 Short distance off B5109, NEE Bodedern. Good parking, with signposting for the location, good access, and entry to field through a kissing gate. Here lie two chambers, both in advanced stages of decay; the north chamber has been flattened lliterally just a pile of stones but has fascinating layering in the rock on the east side. The southern chamber is still standing, but supported by a large wooden frame; it is obv...

Llyn Cerrig Bach

Llyn Cerrig Bach submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Apr 2007. Perhaps one of the most important iron age sites in the country. A Sacred Lake, into which many votive goods were offered from the late Iron Age (2nd century BC), until just before the Conquest of Anglesey by the Romans. Eleven swords, eight spearheads, wheels of up to 22 different chariots, parts of a shield, and slave chains were found during peat extraction in the Second World War. This is the single most important site of this type in Britain.

Log Text: Awesome passage tomb, well worth a visit. There was localised flooding on the access path when we went due to an issue with the farmers field.

St Seiriol's Well

St Seiriol's Well submitted by AngieLake on 5th Aug 2004. According to the invaluable CADW (Welsh Historical Monuments) booklet, 'Anglesey - A Guide to Ancient Monuments on the Isle of Anglesey' : "Traditionally, this well was thought to be associated with the early native Welsh monastic settlement at Penmon. Indeed, the well and adjacent 'cell', or chamber, were reputedly linked with St Seriol himself. What survives today, however, is probably very much later. The well is one of many examples in Wales linked with a local saint. Such wells were t...

Hampston's Well

Hampston's Well submitted by TimPrevett on 5th May 2008. The main entry has good details. On arriving there is space for two cars, and even a bag for litter! Two large embedded columns give information about the sites history, linking them to Burton Iron Age settlement and Anglo Saxon usage. Steps lead down into a wide open area into which seem to flow a number of tributary springs - though given Cheshire and Lancashire had some flash flooding last night with horrendous thunder and torrential rain, much of this wider area was a mud bath. The further...
