Boskednan stone circle

Boskednan stone circle submitted by JimChampion on 22nd Aug 2005. The portal stones illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. The tallest one (on the left) has a diagonal groove present on this and the opposite side. The holes that the restored stones were raised from have been covered with pegged down foliage, presumably to encourage regrowth on the bare earth.

Hambledon Hill hillfort

Hambledon Hill hillfort submitted by JimChampion on 10th Jan 2005. December 2002. Looking towards the south at the impressive west-facing flank of Hambledon hill. The ramparts are clearly visible in this picture, and the grazing sheep give a sense of scale. The ramparts in the foreground drop away sharply - presumably as the result of a landslip.

Maengwyngweddew

Maengwyngweddew submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Aug 2005. Have you ever tried looking for a squat white standing stone, about 85cm tall, with uncertain directions, and a mountainside of sheep? Not easy. This took me two attempts. An aborted attempt on my birthday left me disappointed and frustrated, wishing I'd purchased the 1:25000, and not the 1:50000. Sob sob. Thankfully, my family had pity upon me, and I returned a couple days later with new attitude and closer studying of the 1:50000 and guide book. This fresh approach helped me find this quartz...

St George's Well (Padstow)

St George's Well (Padstow) submitted by theCaptain on 5th Nov 2012. Just a bit inland from the beach, within lush, almost tropical vegetation, are a few scraps of ancient walling through which the stream runs. In my youth I was lead to believe that this is the remains of an ancient chapel, and hence probably the site of the well, but I am no longer so sure.

Merddyn Cil is on the left of the island as you enter it from the north east neck. This well is located in a shallow square-cut basin in the grass immediately on the west side of a path as it descends towards a small beach / cove on the north west neck of the island.
