Carn Briw
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 21st Oct 2007

Carn Briw submitted by pab on 21st Oct 2007. Carn Briw, from the northern slopes of Mynydd Ingli, on which the wonderful Carn Ingli 'sits' - or should that be 'is enthroned'?
COFLEIN refers to this as simply "A disturbed cairn, 17m in diameter and 1.8m high." The name Carn Briw in fact means just ...'shattered heap of stones'!
What a sad name for such an atmospheric place.

Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Dec 2007

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by PAB on 1st Dec 2007. Taken 1st December 2007. Most pictures give the impression that Kings Quoit is right on the edge of a precipice, which is slightly misleading. This one was taken from the beach on 1st Dec, between some very heavy showers!

Cerrig Duon stone circle
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 2nd Jan 2008

Cerrig Duon stone circle submitted by pab on 2nd Jan 2008. Newly split stones. Just north of Cerrig Duon, there are many split and/or splitting stones scattered around. Fascinated (but not very knowledgeable) as I am by geology, I particularly liked this one which had obviously come apart fairly recently, as the 2 parts fitted together perfectly.
I assume that the severe temperature changes up here mean that frost can get into the layers in the sedimentary rocks and eventually erode & split them apart? This one was about 1m long, in a stream near...

Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagans submitted by pab on 24th Feb 2008. Site in South Glamorgan Wales
The 'latest' addition to the magnificent buildings recontructed at St Fagans is the 13th Church of St Teilo. Re-opened in a ceremony on October 2007, this church has been presented in its pre-reformation interior mode.
The history of the re-siting of the church can be followed in either the BBC Wales site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/southwest/sites/inpictures/pages/st_teilos.shtml?1) or on the Museum's own pages (http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/226/)
