Pollachar
Date Added: 9th Feb 2012
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Scotland (South Uist)
Visited: Yes on 24th Sep 2011

Pollachar submitted by pab on 24th Sep 2011. Strangely low in ambiance - perhaps knowing that it had been re-erected made it seem less 'authentic'?
Grossly unfair of course!

Pobull Fhinn
Date Added: 9th Feb 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (North Uist)
Visited: Yes on 27th Sep 2011

Pobull Fhinn submitted by pab on 27th Sep 2011. Built on a artificial platform, leveling, this oval 'circle' is described in early RCAHms reports as being 122ft E-W and 100ft N-S.
The reports state that there are 23 or 24 stones in total, but the amount of heather/bracken at the time of our visit meant that only the larger ones were visible.

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)
Visited: Yes on 19th Oct 2011

Callanish I submitted by pab on 19th Oct 2011. Although nearby Callanish II and III can be seen fairly well from the main site, it isn't very easy to appreciate that from photos - so hopefully this composite will help those who have not (yet) been able to get to this glorious place.

Visited: Yes on 4th Feb 2012

La Zarza submitted by PAB on 4th Feb 2012. Position of the La Zarza Rock Art site within the Parque Cultural.
The Parque is located within a ravine containing a beautiful mixeture of laurel, pine and other trees. It is approx 15 minute walk from the entrance & museum - rather slippery in wet conditions.

Beuno's Well (Clynnog Fawr)
Date Added: 19th Apr 2012
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2011. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 5

Beuno's Well (Clynnog Fawr) submitted by AngieLake on 11th Jul 2006. St Beuno's Well, or Fynnon Beuno, at Clynnog Fawr. This was once very popular with pilgrims and looked very inviting from the road. (Beware when visiting, as this road is lethal - the traffic whizzes past about an inch from your nose; and, fool that I am, I was there at leaving work time! There are no pavements and it's quite narrow, with no verge. I walked along it trying to catch a glimpse of the dolmen, as well as the well!)
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Well is no longer alongside the busy A499 because of the new Clynnog by-pass. The Well is now in a cul-de-sac formed by the by-pass - it must have been awful to walk to it before!
There seems to have been significant damage to the structure of the wall at some point during or prior to 2010, and the well was still locked in Sept 2011.
St Gwenfaens Well
Date Added: 21st Apr 2012
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Wales (Anglesey)
Visited: Would like to visit
St Gwenfaens Well submitted by guile on 3rd May 2010. St. Gwenfaen's Well.
According to legend St. Gwenfaen was pursued by Vikings, she ran from her cell in Rhoscolyn Church to the well, ascended the nearby rock stack and was carried to heaven and safety by angels right before the reavers eyes.

Stonehenge Aotearoa
Date Added: 7th Jun 2012
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: New Zealand
Visited: Yes on 25th Nov 2011. My rating: Ambience 4 Access 5

Stonehenge Aotearoa submitted by pab on 7th Jun 2012. November 2011
This is the 'Avenue' entrance to the main circle, with my 5ft marker (aka Mrs PAB) standing at the entrance for scale.
There is plenty of information about the purpose and layout - but basically the various monoliths are markers of the limits of events such as the solstice or equinox. It is definitely worth visiting the website to understand the location more fully.
