Robin Hood and Little John
Date Added: 15th Oct 2018
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: England (Cambridgeshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2016

Robin Hood and Little John submitted by Thorgrim on 21st Oct 2004. Standing stones in East Anglia? That's what the book says, but I don't think so. Two well dressed stones incredibly difficult to find by the River Nene. Probably early medieval stones set here to mark a safe crossing of the wide river.

Log Text: The capstone on this dolmen is absolutely vast. It is accessed down a narrow footpath and then has a narrow ring of ground around it so it is difficult to get far enough away to photograph except from the approach path. It towers above you because you have to stand so close to it. There is a plaque saying it was given to the community by the owner in 1953 stuck high up on the capstone. I guess its condition as a 4 but an expert may say its damaged and should be a 3.
Pierre des Quatre Curés
Date Added: 16th Oct 2018
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Auvergne:Puy-de-Dôme (63))
Visited: Yes on 15th Oct 2016
Pierre des Quatre Curés submitted by thecaptain on 21st Sep 2006. On the map this stone looks spectacularly positioned overlooking the Sancy mountains one way, and the valley of the river Dordogne the other.
In practice, it really only overlooks the fields around it, although there is a nice view of the Sancy Massif, the highest point of the Massif Central.
