St Ruan's Well (Cadgwith)
Date Added: 17th Oct 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 31st May 2005

St Ruan's Well (Cadgwith) submitted by ocifant on 31st May 2005. This well has been spoilt by having a copious supply of tealights and matches inside. Where these have been used, the walls are blackened. Unfortunate because it could be a lovely place otherwise...

Here are two of the four...

St Oswald's Well (Kirkoswald)
Date Added: 17th Oct 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Cumbria)
Visited: Yes on 25th Jun 2005

St Oswald's Well (Kirkoswald) submitted by ocifant on 25th Jun 2005. The well sits at the side of the church, against a hillside. The church bell tower is separate and sits at the top of the hill. There are steps and a door leading down to the well, but the door was locked. It is necessary to lower the drinking cup to obtain the water.
Apparently, the church boiler leaked some time ago, and the water was poluted with oil, and is no longer fit to drink, although it is still used for baptisms...

St Mungo's Well (Cumbria)
Date Added: 17th Oct 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Cumbria)
Visited: Yes on 26th Jun 2005

St Mungo's Well (Cumbria) submitted by ocifant on 26th Jun 2005. Looking at the various maps, the location of this well is difficult to discern. It's actually easy to find once you get to the church though.
From St Kentigern's in Caldbeck, walk through the churchyard from the road, and exit via the rear gate. Cross the footpath to the river. Immediately on entering the river path, there are a couple of steps down to the riverbank. These lead to the well.

Soulbury Stone

Site Type: Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature
Country: England (Buckinghamshire)
Visited: Yes on 4th Sep 2005

Soulbury Stone submitted by ocifant on 4th Sep 2005. Located some 50 yards or so north of the church, at the junction of High Road and Chapel Hill (SP882270), this stone looms from the tarmac like a walrus breaking from the sea.
There are no give way signs, or other warnings, and yet no sign of collision damage, which is a minor miracle of some kind! Don't look for this one at night.

Bosullow Trehyllys is a small village of Courtyard Houses, in terms of preservation it is considered to be second only to the nearby ancient village of Chysauster. The biggest difference is that Bosullow Trehyllys remains unexcavated. Today this site is grazed by horses (04/2010).
