Appletreewick stone circle is definately worth visiting - the views are fantastic. When we went there, there were diving, crying Lapwings shouting at us to be careful of their nests. It really added to the atmosphere.

Auchencar submitted by nicoladidsbury on 2nd Sep 2004. Standing Stone at Auchencar, Isle of Arran
Grid Ref:891364
Red sandstone Standing stone 5m high, covered in lichens, with views over Machrie Bay. The stone is very thin.
This stone is similar to the red sandstone circles found at machrie moor.
Aubrey Burl identifies a possible source for these stones at Auchencar, which is 5 km to the north of machrie moor. If this is the site of the quarry for the machrie moor stones, was this particular stone some sort of marker.

Bachwen submitted by nicoladidsbury on 3rd May 2006. The Dolmen is in a farmer's field, with views down to the see, and over to the hills Yr Eifl with its hillfort Tre'r Ceiri.
The sheep spotted me and ran, they must have sensed that I wanted their lambs in my photos for the Megalithic Portal Spring Competition.

Barclodiad-y-Gawres (Anglesey) submitted by nicoladidsbury on 19th Apr 2006. The bay of Porth Trecastell
It was getting dark when I left the chambered cairn of Barcloiad y Gawres. The full moon had risen, and was pouring light over the bay of Trecastell. I caught this photo of the waves crashing against the rocks. Then sat quietly, and watched the moon rise, its light reflecting across the bay, broken by the plusing of the waves. A magic time. :)

Bewcastle Cross submitted by nicoladidsbury on 20th Sep 2004. Bewcastle Cross, Cumbria
Image shows the detail from the north and east sides of the 15m cross. These sides are very well preserved.
The north side is divided into five compartments. In the highest and lowest are vines running in graceful curves and bearing foliage and fruit. "In the second and fourth divisions are two curiously-devised and intricately-twisted knots." The third division is filled with the chequer work. Between the compartments are lines of Runes which are now so indi...

Bodfan Standing Stone
Date Added: 4th Feb 2011
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 24th Apr 2006

Bodfan Standing Stone submitted by nicoladidsbury on 24th Apr 2006. The stone is listed on the OS maps. The nearest farm is called Bodfan, so it seemed like a sensible name, although it may have a proper name.
The hills in the distance are to the south, from left to right - Bwlch Mwar, Gryn Goch, Gryn Ddu, and the three peaks of Yr Eifl, the first one if which is the marvellous hillfort of Tre'r Ceiri.
