Lady Well, Woolpit submitted by ermine on 4th Oct 2004. The actual site of the well is difficult to find, as it feeds a moat so there is a lot of water about. This brick enclosure is the well itself.

Stanton Drew - Avenue
Date Added: 18th Apr 2011
Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Would like to visit
Stanton Drew - Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Aug 2006. For evidence of the avenue, go past the NE circle, and look for the linear earthwork. The line is visible here on the LH corner of the picture; the group is on another part of the earthwork. Looking on the aerial pics, and on the ground, this can be traced from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock outside the Great and NE circles. I did have an excellent picture of this from the ground, but have accidentally overwritten it!

Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes

Sacred Spring, Bath submitted by Thorgrim on 8th Aug 2004. The hot springs still rise at Bath. Sacred to Sulis long before the coming of the Romans. Tourists stand in awe of the Roman outflow, but that is merely a drain. Here where the hot water bubbles up from the earth is the real mystery.

Country: England (Somerset)

Wookey Hole Caves submitted by JimChampion on 26th Aug 2008. Fairly standard picture from one of the first caverns (The so-called Witch's Kitchen) at Wookey Hole caves. The water is the River Axe, which soon after this point emerges into the open. Bear in mind that the water level in the caves was raised by the construction of Wookey Hole mill in the 17th century (and even further back with the mill recorded in the Domesday Book). The caves were used by palaeolithic humans and again by people in the Iron Age. In the past hundred years they have been devel...
