Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Would like to visit
Stanton Drew - Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Aug 2006. For evidence of the avenue, go past the NE circle, and look for the linear earthwork. The line is visible here on the LH corner of the picture; the group is on another part of the earthwork. Looking on the aerial pics, and on the ground, this can be traced from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock outside the Great and NE circles. I did have an excellent picture of this from the ground, but have accidentally overwritten it!

Skorba submitted by enkidu41 on 30th Jun 2004. This 3-apse temple dates from the earliest phase of building (the Ggantija phase) at around 3500 BC. The shot is of entrance passage and its massive portals. The original 'torba' flooring of the apses can also be seen. (Torba is a cement-like substance made from the local limestone by crushing, watering and pounding).

Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes

Sacred Spring, Bath submitted by Thorgrim on 8th Aug 2004. The hot springs still rise at Bath. Sacred to Sulis long before the coming of the Romans. Tourists stand in awe of the Roman outflow, but that is merely a drain. Here where the hot water bubbles up from the earth is the real mystery.

Cairo Museum of Egyptology submitted by AlexHunger on 31st Jan 2005. Cairo Museum of Egyptology
Many fine exhibits are displayed in the museum. The museum contains the items from Tutankhamons tomb, and the mumy of Ramses II amng many others. It has become a little cramped over the last 100 years and there is talk of transfering most exhibits to a new museum being built at this time and only keeping items relating to the 18th Dynasty, particularly Tutankhamon and Akenaten.
It is not permited to take photos inside.

Merry Maidens (Circle) submitted by JimChampion on 27th Oct 2006. August 2005. The Merry Maidens under fluffy white clouds. I rediscovered this photo and selectively manipulated the contrast so that you can now see the stones (previously they were too dark). I've uploaded a similar photo to Wikimedia Commons - they need pictures of ancient sites for use on free sites like Wikipedia.
