Log Text: This rounded hillock lies within Newtonmore's Highland Folk Museum. The site is free to access. One lower side of the hillock has been truncated by the railway. The top is flattened off with the vague outline of a building on top out of which trees are growing. There are some exposed stones on the east side of the hill but otherwise nothing obvious left to indicate this once had a cairn and standing stones.

Log Text: I think Julian Cope described the recumbent as looking like a 'smashed tank' or somesuch similar thing. Definitely appropriate as the ruins of the rest of the site looks like a battlefield.

Auchquhorthies submitted by megalithicmatt on 2nd Jan 2012. The recumbent and one of its flankers (on its right hand side) are near the left. This circle appears to be far better preserved than neighbouring Old Bourtreebush.

Auld Kirk O Tough
Date Added: 26th Feb 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 29th Oct 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 2

Auld Kirk O Tough submitted by megalithicmatt on 2nd Nov 2011. Photo looking south-ish. One of only two stones standing. A drystane dyke lines up with this stone but whether or not it stands in its original position is unclear as the site is badly damaged.
A bank curves round behind the stones to the north and a vague hump, possibly the remains of a cairn, lies in the centre.
The drystane dyke further down the field towards Denwell farmyard has several large and long stones built into the base.

Log Text: Longish walk uphill needed to get there from the Corrennie Wood minor road. The site is very small and damaged from earthworks and a drystane dyke. Met an old farmer there who reminisced about long winters 70 years ago.

Bieldside submitted by bobs on 29th Jan 2004. This burial cairn is situated slap bang in the middle of a modern housing estate and therefore has absolutely no atmosphere whatsoever. That said, it is still a good example of this type of cairn.
