Bieldside submitted by bobs on 29th Jan 2004. This burial cairn is situated slap bang in the middle of a modern housing estate and therefore has absolutely no atmosphere whatsoever. That said, it is still a good example of this type of cairn.

Whitehill Stone Circle submitted by cosmic on 4th Apr 2004. Whitehill in Aberdeenshire at NJ 643135 is Graded as ruined but recogniseable but still appears in his Guide to Stone Circles.
Recently the surrounding wood has been harvested so it can be seenin context.
Only the West flanker (about 8 fett tall) and a stone in the NW corner are still standing but the general shape is obvious from the fallen stones and the cairn inside.

The Langstane submitted by cosmic on 29th Mar 2004. The Langstane at NJ938059 is situated only 30m from one of Aberdeen's main thoroughfares at the junction of Dee Street and Lanstane Place. It is embedded into a recess at the back of a branch of a well known fastfood restaurant.
It appears close to its present site on G&W Paterson's 1746 map of Aberdeen but it is suspected that it may have been part of a stone circle on the West side of the Denburn. Another stone, the Crab Stane, appears on the same map.

The only reason I'm convinced I've got the actual site is the ditch
which surrounds it. At the edge of a rookery this site has a couple of
upstanding (rather than standing stones) and a ditch of the correct size
(just over 7metres).
The main track up the hill is blocked by a high gate and barbed wire,
presumably to prevent access to the quarry sites and ubiquitous
telephone mast which now straddles the hill. The actual circle is down
in the South most corner o...

Hill of Barra submitted by bobs on 29th Jan 2004. Hill of Barra Iron Age Hillfort in Aberdeenshire, which also has traces of mediaeval ridge and furrow cultivation. Access is by a track off the main Inverurie/Oldmeldrum road. The track is long and uphill all the way. Wear stout trousers if climbing to the top, because there are wicked gorse bushes all round the base, whose thorns find any way they can to scratch your legs. I know this from bitter experience!
