Log Text: Long walk up and down a damaged pathway; but worth it.
Remember to take water with you on a hot day, the journey is hot and stony.
Super scrambling around on Bobastro. Loads of things (holes and caves & stuff) to see. One wonders what it was like in the dungeon though, slightly weird feelings about what scenes may have played out here one the eons.

Peyrefitte

Peyrefitte submitted by thecaptain on 15th Jan 2006. Large menhir near to the Dordogne river in the commune of St-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens in Gironde. This is said to be the largest standing stone in southwest France, (but not the tallest) and it is 5.2 metres tall, 3 metres wide and less than a metre thick, with the bottom part of it chipped away to make the distinctive shape.

Merrivale Stone Slabs 1 and 2

Merrivale Stone Slabs 1 and 2 submitted by AngieLake on 1st May 2009. Slab 1 with the hole in it, here looking towards the SW and the standing stone in the distance. (A separate photo will show the hole in close-up). Jack Walker says that this hole and the menhir align with the place on the horizon where the winter solstice sun sets. He wonders if this is the original Winter solstice sunset alignment at Merrivale.

Chestnuts

Chestnuts submitted by enkidu41 on 8th Apr 2004. The stones are massive (the 2 capstones and some uprights weigh up to 10 tons) and once formed a rectangular chamber 12' long and 7' high entered through a facade of sarsen stones. The owner will suggest you try dowsing rods. Do so, because you will be able to trace out the full extent of the chamber and long gone mound. TQ 652 592

Callanish 8

Callanish 8 submitted by Postman on 28th Aug 2016. From the other side of the misty bridge, if you like bridges this one's a good one, it was the first example of a bridge made of pre-stressed concrete girders in the country. Though why anyone would be daft enough to travel the country for years on end spending thousands of pounds just looking at bridges is beyond me.
