Merrivale Stone Slabs 1 and 2

Merrivale Stone Slabs 1 and 2 submitted by AngieLake on 1st May 2009. Slab 1 with the hole in it, here looking towards the SW and the standing stone in the distance. (A separate photo will show the hole in close-up). Jack Walker says that this hole and the menhir align with the place on the horizon where the winter solstice sun sets. He wonders if this is the original Winter solstice sunset alignment at Merrivale.

Log Text: Short walk from the road, the line begins and leads to the distance.
Its said during the plague, victims would camp out here and be brought food by their relatives. Grim stuff.
