The north side is divided into five compartments. In the highest and lowest are vines running in graceful curves and bearing foliage and fruit. Used as structure for the Duomo (cathedral) with a new Baroque facade and the space between the columns filed in with masonry. Rome conquered Sicily in 211 BCE as part of the Second Punic War eventhough Sicilly was largely Greek. The Scientist Archimedes was killed during the conquest of Siracusa

Fossa Standing Stones submitted by kengelma on 26th Dec 2011. View through the fence at Fossa. You can see that they are building walkways among the stones. I suspect that a lot of damage happened during the 2009 earthquake near L'Aquila.
