The Roaches

The Roaches submitted by Draconis on 17th Feb 2016. Another view of the Roaches, this one from near Meerbrook. It shows the typical Dragon profile: the long body to the left, dipping down to the neck, then rising to form the head to the right. If you compare this with, for example, the outline of the West Kennet Longbarrow, you will find a remarkable similarity. Such barrows represented the Great Serpent-Dragon Goddess, the Earth Mother. St Winefrides Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 26th Nov 2004. Outdoor rectangular bathing pool containing the submerged St Beuno’s Stone which can be seen in the photo nearer to the front of the pool than the steps and hand rail in the rear left corner. The well chamber behind the pool is a fine example of late perpendicular architecture creating an almost square crypt covering the wellhead. Around the well, graceful columns rise to support an elaborate vaulted roof which in turn supports St Winifrede’s Chapel above. Once, steps led from the well up...
