Log Text: The area of Heiliger Stein is very well preserved today with great respect. There is a small partly nature chapel and the reconstructed foundation of abandoned church. Below the main stone there is a chain of spherical black stones which ends with a small circle. If I understood the information sign in german well, these black stones are modern datation and it should designate energy-relevant locations.

Quellenreuth Stein

Quellenreuth Stein submitted by ladrin on 25th May 2020. Could it be an ancient prehistoric monument?
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Large piece of smoothly shaped granite block located on the edge of the forest, about 500m south of the Quellenreuth stone cross. It has about 120 cm in height. There is no written record about its origin or purpose.

The stone is locally known as a Swedish or French stone and folks legend talks about Thirty Years War grave. Some theories suppose this monument is the remnant of a medieval shrine other believe it is an ancient menhir.

Müllerstein submitted by ladrin on 25th Feb 2020. Nice monument in a lovely day...

Log Text: Beautifully carved stone standing in the quiet edge of small bavarian town Schonwald. It is not quiet clear what was his original purpose. Selected from existing theories it can be later christianized ancient menhir, old germanic burial stone above the grave, medieval cross or propitiatory stone or boundary stone.

In any case it is about 120cm tall granite slab of maximum width 95cm. The stone is known as a "Müllerstein" (simply "Millstone"). On both sides it has quite sophisticated engravings of crosses.

According to local legend the stone is standing in the place where two boys from the local mill ...that is what its name came from... were killed in a bloody fight for a girl. Another two stones should indicate burial place of those millers and they are located less then one km from here in the woods.

Log Text: Well...that's something! The only structure of its kind in this part of the Europe.... an authentic pyramid! Despite several researches, this circular step pyramid remains one big mystery.

Some people say it is medieval or maybe newer construction and part of some romantic natural park. Other researches estimate its age for 2000 years. Some say that it is an ancient germanic sacral place, other suppose this as a newer guarding outpost. According to some measurements an exceptional energy lines intersect here but I cant confirmed that.

Until the year 2000 the place was just a pile of stone debris. After that it was researched (without any significant conclusions) and reconstructed. Average in the base is about 17m and the heigt is up to 7m. Estimated used material is about 2000 tons of stones.. such a work for only romantic imitation.. To me the place is simply beautiful, enigmatic place worth a visit.

Log Text: So called "Killybeg standing stones" is either big mystery or simply a little mistake. There are no such stones in this area except Saval More pair.

There used to be a lonely menhir in the field about 150m SW from the Saval More stones. Some old photos can still be found on a web that can prove it. This "Kyllibeg" stones was probably mistaken for this vanished menhir.

Unfortunately even the lonely stone doesn't exist anymore. Most probably was stolen and moved to unknown place. I talked to local lady resident who confirmed that. She said that "the stone stood there since ever. And suddenly disappeared by the day.. roughly about 5 years ago.".

Loughmoney

Loughmoney submitted by ladrin on 1st Nov 2023. Such a beautiful and quite unknown monument.

Log Text: Surprisingly distinctive and beautiful monument taking into account quite peripheral knowledge of this site. Being placed close to the road so even acces is very easy. Situated on the hill behind the lowly wall of the private field.

Roughly 1,8 cm tall dolmen made of slate stone of NW orientation. Two smaller sides stones support impresive flat stone. Though describe as the portal tomb it might be rather remnant of the court tomb with missing court part.

Central monument is surrounded by the circular alignment of at least 20 stones. Some of them are in upright position. I visited the site on lovely sunny day with no one far around so I really did enjoy!

Dowally

Dowally submitted by ladrin on 6th Apr 2024. Pair of stones known also as Clachan More standing stones.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Pair of standing stones located by the green garden hedge of the small cottage. Both monoliths are quite impressive slabs up to 230cm respectively 260cm high. Western stone has distinctive vertical quartzite vein.

According existing sources the stones are not in its origin location. They were relocated and rearanged after one was hit by the bus and broken sometimes before 1975.

Owner of the house is accommodating and sympathizing with stone-enthusiast so the permission is no problem at all.
