Fossa Standing Stones

Fossa Standing Stones submitted by kengelma on 26th Dec 2011. View through the fence at Fossa. You can see that they are building walkways among the stones. I suspect that a lot of damage happened during the 2009 earthquake near L'Aquila.

Log Text: It may be a cool place someday--it looks like someone was putting money into the site before the earthquake in the area. Currently, the site seems to be fenced off and inaccessible (no opening hours). It is difficult to find--completely unmarked. Head toward the area where they have relocated residents after the earthquake--the little housing development. You need to turn left right after the railroad tracks near the "Colorifico Dagostini" building.

Log Text: N 42.19071; E013.52817; Elevation 2.7762 M. Nearest intersection is Sp28 & Viale Padre Giovanni Minozzi; we found it by asking a local farmer. It's a wonderfully atmospheric place, out in the middle of nowhere. It is possible to drive very close by turning off the main road onto a dirt road, and then walking across a field to the stone. It is much smaller than it appears in most photos--about five feet tall. There are no markings from the road.
