Dolmen de Montbarbat

Dolmen de Montbarbat submitted by kalcoatl on 21st May 2018. Dolmen de Montbarbat, Lloret de Mar, Cataluña Spain

Log Text: If arriving by car, follow signs for Poblat de Montbarbat, park near the Municipal Water Deposit and follow the signed footpath towards same. At the entrance to the Poblat, follow the footpath to its left which brings you around the back of the urbanization, and meets with this hilltop dolmen. Retrace steps and visit the Poblat for even more stunning views across the countryside.
Like the Poblat, the Dolmen site stands on the border between Lloret de Mar and Maçanet de la Selva. The Dolmen falls slightly on the Maçanet side and is sadly uncared for, but not showing signs of recent vandalism.

Poblat de Montbarbat

Poblat de Montbarbat

Log Text: Well-signposted by road from before the entrance to the Montbarbat urbanization. Park at water deposit car park and 0.5km walk up to the Poblat (village/settlement).
Some remains en route before you reach the hilltop where a large community clearly once lived. Many dwellings down to ground level but with some walls up to 1m or so. Plenty to explore.
Not exploited by the local town hall, and sadly no attempts at preservation or protection, with one exception: a large rusty sign telling you not to spoil the site. Ambience only spoilt by that and a fenced-in watchtower-style radio antenna on the Maçanet side of a concrete post marking the border with Lloret de Mar, where most of the settlement remains lie.
Splendid views from the coast at Lloret de Mar, Blanes and Malgrat de Mar right along the N-II corridor via Maçanet & Girona, taking in many hills and towers, and modern towns either side. It was a bit hard to tell on a hazy day, but the views probably extend to the Pyrenees.

Paradolmen Pedra Sobre Altra

Trip No.1  Entry No.8  Date Added: 22nd May 2021
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: Spain (Cataluña)
Visited: Yes on 25th May 2018. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Paradolmen Pedra Sobre Altra

Paradolmen Pedra Sobre Altra submitted by kalcoatl on 26th May 2018. Paradolmen Pedra Sobre Alta somewhere beneath this, near Tossa de Mar, Catalunya. Ladder and chains fixed to give access to the top.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: 5 minutes walk from the GIP-6821 main road. Forms part of a 1-2km signposted circular walk (including Menhir d'en Llach and/or Paradolmen del Senglar).
"Pedra Sobre Alta" translates to "Stone on top of another" and you can see why from the photos. Owing to lack of time and overgrowth of bushes and trees I was not able to find the corridor entrance to the dolmen itself.

Paradolmen del Senglar

Trip No.1  Entry No.7  Date Added: 26th May 2018
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: Spain (Cataluña)
Visited: Couldn't find on 25th May 2018. My rating: Access 4

Paradolmen del Senglar

Paradolmen del Senglar submitted by kalcoatl on 26th May 2018. Natural rocks at the site of the Paradolmen del Senglar, near Tossa de Mar, Catalunya
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Very overgrown and difficult to isolate among massive piles of weathered rocks. According to the book "Dolmens, Coves i Menhirs" by Pau Roig Ros and Xavier Niell Ciurana (Revista del Baix Empordà, 2017), this paradolmen is 20m from the path, partly below some erratic blocks of granite, with the entrance oriented to the south (175º), and 2.45m wide, 1.22m high.

Menhir Caigut

Trip No.1  Entry No.6  Date Added: 26th May 2018
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: Spain (Cataluña)
Visited: Yes on 25th May 2018. My rating: Condition 1 Access 3

Menhir Caigut

Menhir Caigut submitted by kalcoatl on 26th May 2018. Site of the Menhir Caigut, near Tossa de Mar, Catalunya. If not removed, the menhir is possibly the horizontal stone leaving the left of the picture!
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Site approx 30 minutes walk from the GIP-6821 main road (but mostly uphill back), accessible by off-road vehicle along forest trails (the local 4x4 tours visit an excellent viewpoint overlooking the coast 30m away).
The name translates to "Fallen stone" so it is no surprise to not find it vertical.
A hand-painted sign visible from the path says "sa porta el pedra", literally "the stone door", but equally likely to be badly spelt: "s'ha porta el pedra" meaning "the stone has been taken". The sign points upwards (or ahead) but I could not locate anything else resembling a menhir there. To the left of said sign is a menhir-shaped rock on its side, roughly coinciding with the GPS coordinates.

Menhir de Montllor 2

Trip No.1  Entry No.5  Date Added: 26th May 2018
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: Spain (Cataluña)
Visited: Couldn't find on 25th May 2018

Log Text: Menhir de Montllor 1 (see log entry) is beside the roadside, but this one was nowhere to be found according to the GPS coordinates.

Log Text: Approx 30 minutes walk from GIP-6821 main road, or accessible with off-road vehicle along forest trails. Stone stands alongside pathway, approx 100m before the Menhir Caigut. Between the two is an excellent vantage point for views of the coast and Tossa de Mar.

Log Text: Easy to find along forest trail (accessible by off-road vehicle), approx 20 minutes walk from the GIP-6821 main road. Massive rockpile alongside overshadows the dolmen.

Cista de Cadiretes

Trip No.1  Entry No.2  Date Added: 26th May 2018

Visited: Yes on 25th May 2018. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 3

Log Text: Approx 15 mins walk from the GIP-6821 along forest tracks. Close to the Puig de Cadiretes, vantage point for outstanding views (among the trees, 10m from the final signpost to the peak on opposite side of the path). Cairn is overshadowed by large "rockpile".
