Log Text: Somewhat neglected site that was clearly once well-managed, judging by the orientation and information slabs that form part of the path, enclosed by fencing and currently closed to the public.
The main feature is the hilltop rock out of which several caves have been formed. Some other caves in the ricky hillside can also be found.
Interpretative Centre of Évora Megalithism
Date Added: 21st Dec 2022
Site Type: Museum
Country: Portugal (Évora)
Visited: Yes on 21st Dec 2022. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 5

Interpretative Centre of Évora Megalithism submitted by Aluta on 16th Apr 2022. Setting the menhir upright.
This is not my image but was posted by Ebora Megalithica on their Facebook page. It is only one of about 10 images of the process of moving and placing a menhir without modern machinery. It is a relatively small stone but I thought some people might like to see photos of how it was done.

Log Text: Entrance is free to the Interpretation centre. All the information boards are in Portuguese only, and take some effort to understand.
There is also a collection of letterpress printing machines and type in an adjoining room, as well as the church. Outside, the cemetery is full of magnificent headstones and tombs.
Alto de São Bento
Date Added: 21st Dec 2022
Site Type: Ancient Village or Settlement
Country: Portugal (Évora)
Visited: Yes on 21st Dec 2022. My rating: Ambience 4 Access 4

Alto de São Bento submitted by TheCaptain on 11th Nov 2019. Little remains to be seen of the prehistoric settlement which existed on this fine granite hilltop from 7000 years ago, which was the very origins of the fabulous and historic city of Évora.
Today this hilltop is topped with the remains of several windmills, and provides fantastic views over the city of Évora and all around the Alentejo region.

Log Text: I visited this place for its high position in the landscape and views of Évora. I was unaware of any ancient village. Three windmills dominate the peak, standing on granite extrusions, with several radio or telephone masts just beyond them.
The central windmill carries a notice indicating it to be some kind of museum or interpretation centre, but it was locked on the day of my visit.
