Abereiddy Promontory Fort
Date Added: 28th Jun 2016
Site Type: Promontory Fort / Cliff Castle
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Would like to visit

Abereiddy Promontory Fort submitted by h_fenton on 12th Jan 2010. Abereiddy Promontory Fort/enclosure, view of the ditches, ramparts and interior with the later tower. Just beyond the tower and to the right (north) are some depressions that probably contained buildings, these depressions have banks on their lower sides.
The slight bank closest to the camera is probably post-medieval.
Very low level, Kite Aerial Photograph (I do have a few higher shots but this show it all quite well)

Caer Leb

Caer Leb submitted by TimPrevett on 14th Apr 2004. Caer Leb is a rectilinear settlement enclosure, with double ditches and banks defining an area 200 feet by 160 feet. Some have interpreted it as a mediaeval homestead with moat (indeed, some of the ditches get very water logged). However, finds of a 3rd Century AD brooch, a 4th Century denarius of Postumus, and Roman pottery and quernstones date the site much earlier than mediaeval. Like the Din Lligwy Settlement, the CADW guidebook says it possibly has its origins earlier than the 3rd Century, ...

Carnac Plage Dolmen

Carnac Plage dolmen submitted by Jimwithnoname on 25th Nov 2010. A quite bare looking dolmen at the edge of a car park in the town. This is the magic of Carnac, even though it's not the original position it still stands as a monument to those of that time.

NGR: SN06093930 (Landranger map 145/Outdoor Leisure North Pembrokeshire map (No 35))
Located close to the centre of Newport in Pembrokeshire with public access. Although called a tripod dolmen four uprights exist - only two of which support the capstone (which is said to replicate the summit of Carn Ingli to the south).
Excavations have revealed cremated bone, Beaker and Grooved ware sherds.

This stunning cromlech is right on the Pembrokeshire coast, not far from Fishguard. It sits in a coastal sheep meadow, accessable over the cattle grid off the farm driveway. The ambience is magnificent as you can see.

Champ Dolent menhir submitted by Jimwithnoname on 19th Jul 2011. A now much more open site. The surrounding bushes have been cut back. I guess farmers are having to utilise all their available crop space nowadays.
We sheltered perfectly out of the rain against this 'warm' stone in a downpour.

Coat Castel Menhir

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Bretagne:Côtes-D'Armor (22))
Visited: Yes on 14th Jul 2011
Coat Castel menhir submitted by Jimwithnoname on 14th Jul 2011. Taken around 8pm, this menhir stands at the edge of dense woodland. Large boulders are dotted around close by. As many forest menhirs probably are, this quartz granite menhir is covered in thick moss, but I'm sure it would have once shone brightly in the sunshine.

Din Lligwy submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Lligwy Ancient Settlement SH497861
This settlement, NW from Moelfre and not far from the Lligwy burial chamber is huge! A short walk from parking space for maybe 3 cars, through woodland, this location can occupy a considerable amount of time exploring the nooks & crannies of this probable 4th century AD settlement.
