Herefordshire Beacon

Herefordshire Beacon submitted by Jimwithnoname on 25th Jul 2011. Picture taken facing North. The sheer enormity of this site is difficult to comprehend. This is probably the windiest and coldest of all the hills on the Malvern's, in all seasons, and so the thought of anybody living there, let alone building a castle on the top.. These hills are of some of the oldest granite in the world. Malvern is famed for it's spring water cures in the Victorian era; it's real history runs far deeper.

Holyhead Mountain

Holyhead Mountain submitted by Jimwithnoname on 8th Sep 2011. Heather and gauze now cover most of the site here. I'm sure the people were hardy, but I think they would have been very warm in their homes. I would love to live in one, or at least give it a try :)

Caer Leb

Caer Leb submitted by TimPrevett on 14th Apr 2004. Caer Leb is a rectilinear settlement enclosure, with double ditches and banks defining an area 200 feet by 160 feet. Some have interpreted it as a mediaeval homestead with moat (indeed, some of the ditches get very water logged). However, finds of a 3rd Century AD brooch, a 4th Century denarius of Postumus, and Roman pottery and quernstones date the site much earlier than mediaeval. Like the Din Lligwy Settlement, the CADW guidebook says it possibly has its origins earlier than the 3rd Century, ...

Din Lligwy

Din Lligwy submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Lligwy Ancient Settlement SH497861 This settlement, NW from Moelfre and not far from the Lligwy burial chamber is huge! A short walk from parking space for maybe 3 cars, through woodland, this location can occupy a considerable amount of time exploring the nooks & crannies of this probable 4th century AD settlement.

Reun menhir submitted by paulcall on 22nd May 2009. Martin L's previous photo taken in 1989 shows the menhir towering over the nearby conifer. 20 years later I'm afraid the tree is so large that it is in danger of covering the stone. Hopefully the roots will not de-stabilise it.
