Rollright Stones
Date Added: 4th Sep 2022
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Oxfordshire)
Visited: Would like to visit

Rollright Stones submitted by Energyman on 21st Dec 2020. This was the closest the weather forecast would allow me to get to this year's solstice sunrise, 20/12/20 8:30am. Luckily very little cloud. The shot is from the altar as I call it, through the entrance at the King's Men, Rollrights.
This alignment was calculated by Jack Morris Eyton, though he never got the chance to confirm it.

Site Type: Cairn

Roughtor long cairn submitted by theCaptain on 18th Oct 2014. Almost 500 metre long stone bank structure, 5 - 8 metres wide and with facing slabs lining its edges, on the northern slopes of Rough Tor. Originally thought to be a sort of boundary structure, an investigation by TimeTeam in 2007 showed it to be more of a cairn type feature.

Shooting Box Disc Barrow

Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Shropshire)
Visited: Yes on 4th Nov 2021
Shooting Box Disc Barrow submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Apr 2004. The best, most obvious barrow remaining on The Long Mynd, and the sole known example of a disc barrow in Shropshire.
It covers a circular area some 170 feet in diameter, with an outer raised heather-covered ring circa 15 feet wide, and the inner green mound 60 feet across and up to 8 feet high.
It is so named due a grouse shooting box that was on its northern side until 1992; it now leaves a large depression in the green mound, with a similar depression on the east side, suggesting another...
