Standing on the pedestrian island at the western side of the roundabout, I had to wait for ages to get a view without traffic whizzing by on either side. The outer wall Scottish Parliament building is on the left hand side of the photograph. This view looks west up Canongate. Holy Well (Frome) submitted by KiwiBetsy on 29th Aug 2006. This well sits beneath a Gothic canopy beside the processional steps up to St John the Baptists Church. The gates of the steps, which can be seen in the right of the picture, were locked when we visited. It’s worth climbing up the steps to the right of the processional steps to look at the sculptured stations of the cross.
The well water flows from the mouth of a stone lions head into a basin and from there away in a gutter that runs down the middle of Cheap Street, which you can follow...
