Witch's Stone submitted by hamish on 25th Oct 2005. After visiting the Staredam Stones continue along the B867 to Waterloo and turn towards Meikle Obney. The Witches Stone is about a mile on the right. It is just inside the fence so there is no need to play with the inquisitive ponies.

Staredam Standing Stones

Staredam Standing Stones submitted by hamish on 26th Oct 2005. These stones are in a field just off the road. you can park in the farm lane. There is a cross incised on the face of the righthand stone. The Society of Antiquaries state that this is one the first examples of a symbol of the Christian faith to be placed on a stone of a pre-historic group.

It was found in the village in the foundations of a house and was then set in the wall of the house, and moved to it's present location probably 1950s. It lost its top and bottom when it was trimmed to fit its former location.

Dunning submitted by hamish on 15th Jul 2008. Was here recently and visited because I have always missed this site. I knew there was a stone somewhere but never found it 'till now. A nice girl took me to it. It is a standard Standing Stone with no ritual markings but it has survived regardless of the farmer.

Clach Mhic Mhios

Clach Mhic Mhios submitted by hamish on 9th Feb 2004. This wonderful Stone is about 6 miles up the road inland from Lothbeg. There are stopping places, but choose carefully as it is further across the heather than you think. It can be very boggy in the spring. The stone is about 10ft tall. The silence here is most wonderful, there is absolutely nothing to break it but the occasional buzzard. I was called away by the distant and unmistakable call of a fine malt,so I went off to find it.
