St Clether Crosses

St Clether Crosses submitted by hamish on 29th Jul 2007. This is at SX202841. Just up the road from Basil Manor it is on the rightside of the road high on the hedge. To get this view you have to go into the field through long grass and nettles. You also need a stout stick to beat down the vegetation hiding the Cross. Quite nice though.

There is a cross incised on the face of the righthand stone. The Society of Antiquaries state that this is one the first examples of a symbol of the Christian faith to be placed on a stone of a pre-historic group.
