Log Text: Very brief stop - easily accesible by car (just over a stile into the enclosure from a layby). Gorgeous stones with an information panel installed to give some light history on them and a translation of the inscriptions. Very worth a stop by.

Log Text: Visited during an overcast day, but still an impressive site. Lots of sheep about which are cute but also a reason to mind where you step. The site is accessible via a footpath and has a car park close by in the town of Minions.

Log Text: Gorgeous spot, quiet and high enough for a view across Penwith. Has a very wonderful 'vibe' to it, old and quiet and the same contemplative place as a modern graveyard. Bit of a pain to find as it's low to the ground and grassy, but not impossible if you follow the track.

Log Text: Beautiful inscribed stone, though it does appear to be in a farmer's field. The inscribed markings are sometimes hard to see if it's overcast.

I find something magical about the process of creating a startrail picture. Sitting under the stars for three or four hours with no lights so my eyes have adjusted to the dark so well that I don't need any additional light. Gazing at the vastness of the universe, spotting meteors, satellites, aircraft, all in complete silence. I don't really sleep because ...

Log Text: The third time I've visted the site, still as magical - to the north, but not far (I believe) of the stones under a bush is a small plastic box with a local schools story of how the stones arrived there. Wonderful little surprise!
Of course, a friend and I went through the stone several times to make sure we wouldn't get any rickets.

Burghead Holy Well
Date Added: 2nd Dec 2024
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Scotland (Moray)
Visited: Saw from a distance on 2nd Dec 2024

Burghead Holy Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 11th Dec 2004. Burghead Well is hidden behind a very high stone wall in King Street, where it narrows to a footpath only.
Through gaps in a locked gate you can see a neatly mown, sloping, empty section and the stone steps that lead underground. A notice tells you where to collect the key and signs detail the well's possible history. Twenty rock steps descend underground to where a barrel roof covers a chamber about 16 feet square. The well is said to be 4 feet deep and has a 3 foot stone ledge right ar...

Standing stone to East of Balnuaran of Clava Cairns - only about two hundred yards away but not on OS Map.
Access is along a long straight country lane (from the East, West end blocked off) that was probably drive way to a big house - trees either side.
Stone itself about six feet high.

Log Text: Seen from the road on the drive to the Clava Cairn carpark & then again from the picnic area near on the other side of the carpark from the stones. Gorgeous flat face and was light up quite beautifully by the setting sun.

Oxenham Arms submitted by TheCaptain on 26th Apr 2004. Oxenham Arms, South Zeal, Devon SX651935.
An enormous and magnificent menhir built into the wall of a tremendous pub on the main street in the village of South Zeal, Devon.
In fact, the pub is believed to have been built by monks in the twelfth century around the menhir. As the pub website says "A very interesting part of the house is the small lounge behind the bar. In this room, set in the wall, is a monolith and the theory of archaeologists is that the monastic builders placed the...
