Log Text: Delightful stone in a stunning cathedral. Had to ask at the informational desk if I could see it due to a flower show but the staff are friendly and all too eager to show it to visitors. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding it apparently, and it's not the only stone of it's age in the church - there's a piece of anglo-saxon knotwork built into one of the columns near another informational sign in the south transept.

Comparing photographs, I think this is Fowberry Moor Farm, Island/Deershed Plantation Panel, ERA-1842, Beckensall 179. The panel is stained dark red due to peat staining.

Great North Museum (Anglo Saxon Stones) submitted by Anne T on 11th May 2018. This is the front of the Rothbury Cross head, described as one of the finest pieces of Anglo-Saxon sculpture from the Kingdom of Northumbria. It is carved with scenes of the crucifixion and other motifs. The museum sign says it was made about 100 years after the Lindisfarne Gospels but "clearly belongs to the same artistic tradition." From the collection of the Society of Antiquities of Newcastle upon Tyne. Submitted with the kind permission of the Great North Museum.

Log Text: Fab museum with a plentiful amount of pieces inside - both older neolithic axes & newer pieces and artefacts from Hadrians wall. Fully reccomend it to anyone in the area since it's a great place to visit.

Four Parishes Rock, I believe the right hand side of this stone is a slightly different colour because it was once in the ground (for a long time), therefore making this a former Standing Stone. The weathering at the other end (left) is also going in the right direction if made when stood up. Ding Dong mine is visible on the right.

According to RootsWeb.com, this well is also known as Maggy Figgy and Margery Daw and was a popular place to christen your doll on Good Friday. The well has been restored by the Carn Marth Preservation Group and is kept locked as a safety measure. I’m sure Figgy Dowdy would approve of this as the rhyme ….

Log Text: Visted for May Day/Kala' Me. Quiet and with gorgeous views, path was overgrown but visible & once down by the well it was silent except for birdsong. There was a small piece of slate tied to the bars that read "mîm dawes' well" - if anyone happens to know what that might mean I would love to know!

Log Text: Visted Lanyon Quoit many times but this was my first time here - absolutely stunning example of a quoit. Humbling to consider this was considered ancient by the folks that built the hill fort, spent a lot of time sitting and trying to take stone rubbings of it.

Chalice Well submitted by MarionBenham on 29th Jan 2004. The new well cover, the iron vesica pisces/bleeding lance designed originally by F Bligh Bond, has been slightly embellished and added to the underside of the lid so it can be seen when the lid is raised.
