Log Text: Delightful stone in a stunning cathedral. Had to ask at the informational desk if I could see it due to a flower show but the staff are friendly and all too eager to show it to visitors. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding it apparently, and it's not the only stone of it's age in the church - there's a piece of anglo-saxon knotwork built into one of the columns near another informational sign in the south transept.

Foreground: 9 exposures of 30 seconds f/8.0 ISO 100 Sky: 300 exposures of 45 seconds f/4.0 ISO 1600 I find something magical about the process of creating a startrail picture. Sitting under the stars for three or four hours with no lights so my eyes have adjusted to the dark so well that I don't need any additional light. Gazing at the vastness of the universe, spotting meteors, satellites, aircraft, all in complete silence. I don't really sleep because ...

Log Text: The third time I've visted the site, still as magical - to the north, but not far (I believe) of the stones under a bush is a small plastic box with a local schools story of how the stones arrived there. Wonderful little surprise!

Of course, a friend and I went through the stone several times to make sure we wouldn't get any rickets.

Log Text: Gorgeous spot, quiet and high enough for a view across Penwith. Has a very wonderful 'vibe' to it, old and quiet and the same contemplative place as a modern graveyard. Bit of a pain to find as it's low to the ground and grassy, but not impossible if you follow the track.

The church guide pamphlet puts it's height at 17'6" with 7ft still underground, as well as calling it the tallest of it's kind in Cornwall. It has a very faint carving at the top of three concentric circles and on the other side in a similar spot is a spiral.

Mabe Church Standing Stone SW757325 Visited Wednesday 19th June 2002 Take the road south through Mabe Burnthouse (SW of A39, W of Penryn & Falmouth). When the church becomes clearly visible, take the junction to the right on a sharp bend. The church is on the left and convenient parking adjacent the cemetery. There is a narrow squeeze through a hole in the wall, into a very old-feeling graveyard; the midsummer canopy of the trees giving it a very dark entry. Following the tarmac path, th...

Log Text: Lovely well! Shame the door was locked, holding a phone camera up to the gaps in the door there's some view but I would've loved to see what it's like open. The door carving is delightful and in great condition, and a plaque on the wall states it's been there since the 6th Century.
