Nobbin Riesenberg submitted by AlexHunger on 21st Apr 2006. Also known as Riesenberg von Nobbin. Small chambered tomb within massive 34 Meter by 11 Meter trapezoidal perimeter enclosure consisting of 42 stones. The two gigantic stones are called "Wächter" or guardians in German. The site was excavated in 1970 by Professor Ewald Schuldt. He found 2 skulls, flint arrowheads and later iron age burials. 21 Meters altitude. Island of Rügen.

But it is more well known for its Cathar castle, and as the site of the slaughter of the last of the Cathars by the catholic church in 1244.
The Castle dungeon has a strange solar event each summer solstice, as the first rays of the rising sun shine right through the two arrow slots on one side, and straight out through two others on the far side. Was this built into it deliberately ? One mi...
