St Digain (Llangernyw)

St Digain (Llangernyw) submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Sep 2007. At St Digain's, Llangernyw, there are two ancient cross incised stones on the south side of the building, both crosses fave west. The design on the western stone is near impossible to make out without a guidebook to hand. There are also two rough, unshaped stones which appear out of place amongst the memorials nearby. St Digain's also has a yew reputed to be 4,000 years old, which is worth a look.

Ysbyty Cynfyn Stone Circle

Ysbyty Cynfyn Stone Circle submitted by Johnny on 10th Oct 2001. Ysbyty Cynfyn "Stone Circle" (SN 752 791) This readily accessible site is situated alongside the A4120 running south from Ponterwyd towards Devil's Bridge. The circle is not marked as an antiquity on recent OS maps but the church itself is easily found. Despite recent dissenting opinion, it has generally been accepted that this is an example of the early Christian Church adopting an ancient site, in this case an embanked Bronze Age stone circle, presumably in an attempt to "des...

Barbrook 3 submitted by PaulM on 31st Aug 2001. Barbrook III Stone Circle, Big Moor, Derbyshire GR: SK283773 Located to the north-east of Barbrook stream and reservoir, Barbrook III is very difficult to make out, as most of the stones are almost completely overgrown by the moorland grass and partially covered in peat. The stones, mostly leaning or collapsed, stand in a bank approximately 26m by 23.5m in diameter, making it one of the largest circles in the Peak District. The bank is broken by three gaps, with one to the east-north-eas...
