High Bridestones (Yorks)
Date Added: 15th Jun 2021
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Yorkshire (North))
Visited: Would like to visit
High Bridestones (Yorks) submitted by JimChampion on 7th Dec 2007. August 2007. The High Bridestones, on the moor. Just one of the megaliths is still standing, with small change firmly wedged into its many crevices. A megalithic shambles indeed. The heather in bloom says that it is summer, although the temperature (and wind) on this day was more like winter!

Hendrefor submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Ucheldref Burial Chamber SH551773
Visited Thursday 28th September 2000
SE Pentraeth, off B5109 Pentraeth to Beaumaris road. Two huge piles of stones in a field, basically! Another example of the decay of ancient monuments sad, but one supposes inevitable in many cases. The waves and contours in the rocks on these two are quite interesting to look at.

Hen Blas submitted by guile on 9th Jan 2011. From the Reverend Skinner's book "Ten Day's Tour through the Isle of Anglesea, December, 1802.
"This morning after breakfast the weather being tolerably fair we walked to Henblas in the parish of Llangristiolus in the expectation of seeing a Cromlech mentioned in our list... We here found three immense stones two of them above fifteen foot high and nearly the same in width standing upright in the ground and another of a flatter form leaning against them."

Harrys Stone submitted by MartinRS on 16th Aug 2013. The site of Oxdale Lodge, by the side of Houndkirk Road. Fairbank's 18th Century map shows Oxdale Lodge to be the location of Harrys Stone. According to Addy, a 19th Century historian, 'Harry is the Anglo-Saxon hearh or hearg (pronounced harry), meaning a temple or idol.' Harrys Stone had gone by the time Addy visited this site in the 1880's. Martin Speck. (CC BY-SA 2.0)

Some of the cars were painted by artists and environmentalists. Brilliant idea and execution!
