Pentre Ifan

Pentre Ifan submitted by Horatio on 22nd Jun 2020. A year later and back at Pentre Ifan for the solstice sunset, all on my own some (apart from a 13yr old Jack Russell this time) I Was expecting at least to see one other (person not Jack Russell) at this site for the sunset. That morning I'd gone to see the sunrise at Gors Fawr stone circle and even left my house in the rain knowing there was zero chance of seeing a sunrise, I definitely was not disappointed, crap weather but I enjoyed being amongst the stones as the solstice sun rose, the cu...

Log Text: Not been here since I was a teenager. I remember driving up the final bit of road with grass rubbing the underside of my mini. Parking is a lot easier now too. Even so not many there, and I had forgotten the open view to the sea. Just a great location.

I have always wondered about some of the large stones you pass on the path to the monument. A couple are big enough to be a capstone for a smaller tome. Plus the raised area as you approach the stones from the foot path. Definitely not part of the original mound that you can trace down hill of the stones and portal area.

Hellstone

Hellstone submitted by eddie304 on 6th Jan 2023. Hell Stone Dolmen? Burial Chamber? Described as remains of denuded long barrow. However there are long barrows in the area with complete mounds, so why different if not intended? Picture view looking North at possible entrance.

Log Text: Visited on my 60th birthday. Been to the site since childhood, including a full mapping and dowsing visit in my late teens (on tandem!). Just the most wonderful stone circle and location. (I have been to very many, just ask the wife.) Access is so much improved to the wider area. There is no longer the need to walk down the road to get to the whispering knights.
