Orphir Round Church submitted by swatson on 25th Jul 2004. All that remains of the Round Church at Orphir on Mainland Orkney. Built in the 12th century AD, dedicated to St Nicholas and described in the Orkneyinga Saga as 'a magnificent church', it is possible that it's construction was instigated by Earl Haakon Paulsson after his pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
