Our Lady's Well (Oakham)

Our Lady's Well (Oakham) submitted by bscwilde on 7th Aug 2020. The structure off Kingfisher Close adjacent to the stream given as SK866,095 in evidently a storm drain outlet cast in reinforced concrete, discharging into the stream and some distance from its source. In 1900 there had been a water mill 420m west of this point, adjacent to the playing fields at the end of Barnstedt Drive.

Robin Hood and Little John

Robin Hood and Little John submitted by bscwilde on 21st Nov 2020. The gate to the enclosure is padlocked. There are other explanations in the etymology and this is not the only local water source. The enclosure is coursed undressed stone, which rises almost cone-like behind the gothic a...

St Botolph (Helpston)

St Botolph (Helpston) submitted by bscwilde on 22nd Apr 2024. Smaller 'wheel', simpler and in a flat plane but also suggestive of five arms, almost petal-like, rather than in a cruciform alignment.
