The Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient Greek astronomical calculator, has challenged researchers since its discovery in 1901. Now split into 82 fragments, only a third of the original survives, including 30 corroded bronze gearwheels. Microfocus X-ray Computed Tomography (X-ray CT) in 2005 decoded the structure of the rear of the machine but the front remained largely unresolved. Log Text: I loved the life size reconstruction of the frieze. You can tell they built the museum with space to include the "missing" bits that are in London at the moment.

Mycenae. submitted by AlexHunger on 20th Aug 2006. Mycenaean Lions Gate from the front. Achaean hillfort from about 1500 to 1100 BCE and probable starting point of Homer's Iliad. There are numerous tholos tombs in the area.

Treasury of Atreus submitted by AlexHunger on 26th Aug 2006. Fanciful name give to a Tholos in use around 1250 BCE, long before the Trojan War. This is one of the few accessible tholos that is completely intact. 36 Meter Dromos.

Log Text: When looking up from Corinth, it was hard to imagine how one could even walk up the hill, let alone drive there. It seems that the majority of the ruins and fortifications there now are medieval rather than ancient.
