Trip No.19  Entry No.4  Date Added: 26th Oct 2021
Site Type: Rock Art Country: Switzerland (Wallis)
Visited: Couldn't find on 21st Aug 1999

Log Text: We approached the site from the south aiming for 46.265, 7.42044, but those coordinates were located seemingly on the face of a cliff. Further research is needed before the second attempt. Perhaps the pictures are of a vertical face best accessed from the N/NW.

Log Text: On our way to our hotel we had to make a little detour. The boardwalks detract a bit from the ambience, but the raised platforms are nice for pictures

Log Text: On the way to Weyland's Smithy, stopped by this group to see our first barrow in Britain. Peaceful setting, and a nice taste of what was to come in Wiltshire. Would have like more time to be able to explore the different barrow types here.

Log Text: A must see on our day out from London to Avebury. When we got there there was a grade school outing having lunch on the barrow. It was fun to see the kids playing around on what to them must have just been another field trip, but for us was a (possibly) once in a lifetime visit.

Uffington Castle Neolithic long barrow

Uffington Castle Neolithic long barrow submitted by h_fenton on 5th May 2009. Neolithic long barrow, 70m north of Uffington Castle Oblique Kite Aerial Photograph from the southwest, you can see the surrounding ditches, in the distance to the left you can see Uffington White Horse. 26 April 2009 Apologies for the quality of the picture, it is a bit blurred and the only photo I have of this site with a bit of space around and some people in for scale.

Uffington White Horse

Uffington White Horse submitted by SteveC on 15th Jun 2020. Unable to be seen in it's entirety from the ground, this is an image taken from a drone.

Log Text: We just caught oblique glimpses of it from the road below. Once at the horse itself, it is surprising just how small the cuts in the turf are. I was expecting them to be measured in yards, but instead you could measure them in feet, or inches in some places. I'm sure there are better places to view it, but it was great to see the way it was made up close.

National Museum of Scotland

National Museum of Scotland submitted by DrewParsons on 3rd Oct 2011. Andesite and sandstone carved balls from Fyvie, Aberdeenshire and Skye dated to between 3500 BC and 1800 BC. September 2011.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Lots of very interesting and important prehistoric artifacts, but it is very hard to find specific items due the the organization of the floors. They are laid out according to a curator's whim of what "theme" the artifact falls unter, rather than chronological. There were carved stone balls in at least two rooms (and I never found the one I was looking for), and hand axes in three different rooms.

Court Cave

Trip No.21  Entry No.4  Date Added: 31st Jul 2025
Site Type: Cave or Rock Shelter Country: Scotland (Fife)
Visited: Yes on 27th Jun 2024. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 5

Court Cave

Court Cave submitted by johnur on 13th Nov 2018. West entrance to Court Cave in September 2018. Comparison with old photos on Canmore will show that the ground level outside the cave is now several feet higher than it was 100 years ago. The top of the old wall in the Canmore photos is now just below the present ground level. This is due to pit waste from Michael Colliery accumulating on the foreshore to establish a ground level which became permanent when rock armour was installed in the late 20th century to prevent coastal erosion.

Log Text: When we unexpectedly realized our deviation from the gps route led us through Wemyss, we had to pay the caves a visit.
