Log Text: One could probably drive to the top of the hill and park by the monument, despite the street being signposted as a private road. Once there the fencing only allows you to see the monument from one end.

Log Text: Well signposted, but also well-fenced off. It is only possible to see the menhir from the west due to the fencing and hedges.

You'd be forgiven for thinking this is a dolmen, and it is locally listed as such, but Burl sets you right. These stones were originally a passage grave with an earth mound on top

You can still walk among the stones at Kerzerho (in 2002 at east) which are near Carnac but not quite so busy. Head up the D781 to Erdeven. You can park nearby, and from there you can also take the path to the large stones of the Table du Sacrifice

Log Text: Possibly the best site we visited during our days in the Carnac area. To be able to walk among the stones is amazing, and the connection with the Giants is a nice bonus. The piles of stones pushed aside to make the road bear interesting witness to another side of this area as well.

Kerpenhir menhir submitted by thecaptain on 29th May 2008. Splendidly positioned beside the sea near to the Pointe de Kerpenhir, this 3.5 metres tall menhir can be seen in the far hedge of a field, overlooking the entrance to the gulf of Morbihan.

Kermario Dolmen

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 17th Jul 2020. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 5

Kermario Dolmen submitted by thecaptain on 18th Oct 2004. Kermario Dolmen, north of Carnac, Brittany.
View of the Kermario Dolmen which is right at the southwest corner of the Kermario Alignements, and right in the corner of the road which skirts the site.
This picture was taken in 1987 when people were free to wander amongst the stones as they pleased. The terrible erosion caused by all the visitors is only too obvious.

Kerlescan Alignements submitted by thecaptain on 18th Oct 2004. Kerlescan Alignements, northeast of Carnac, Brittany.
This picture was taken looking east in 1987, when wandering amongst the stones was OK. I think many of them have been fenced off to try and combat erosion these days. I must go back sometime.

Log Text: Our first view of the Carnac alignments came upon us as somewhat of a surprise. We were coming in from the east, and had put the Kerlescan dolmen in the GPS, so were not thinking alignments at that moment. What a wonderful and breathtaking "surprise"!

Log Text: The brush has grown up around the dolmen, fortunately mainly broom and no gorse, so it is still fairly easy to access. The surrounding greenery does add to the feeling of isolation, in spite of the highway close by.
